TAC 40th Anniversary

History

The origin of the Stones River Crafts Association is rooted in the Stones River Crafts Fair, which was first held for the nation's Bicentennial Celebration. It was produced by a small group of individuals who desired a show featuring the highest quality crafts locally and from across Tennesse.

That first fair was seen as such a valuable asset and a success for Murfreesboro that a demand was created to continue it for the next several years.

Since that time, our community has experienced a rapid and unprecedented growth which, combined with the obvious void in the visual arts, has caused our cultural atmosphere to suffer.

While this growth is also responsible for increasing the number of working craft professionals in the area, it has done little to increase the public's knowledge of their existence.

In an attempt to solve this situation, the annual Craft Artist Studio Tour in November was established. It was seen as a way to increase the public's awareness of and education about crafts. The Tour features several artists in open house settings and includes new artists and invited guests.

Some increased community awareness has followed the Tour's success. However, to have a greater impact with an ever growing audience and to address the continued void in the visual arts, the Stones River Crafts Association was formed.
